The European Border Breakers Awards have been, ehm..., well, awarded in Groningen, last weekend. I've been looking at the Scandinavian winners, but I wasn't very impressed. As far as I'm concerned the only artsist worthwhile is Icelandic Asgeir.
Norwegian Nico & Vinz are trying too hard to sound American, Icona Pop (Sweded) are just trying to sing loud and Lukas Graham (Denmark) I find quite plain, middle of the road.
Asgeir has a great sound of himself, writes beautiful, melodic tunes and creates a unique atmosphere around it. I like his songs better in Icelandic than in English, but that's largely due to snobbism.
The only thing I'm afraid of with Asgeir is that on occasion he comes very close to - unintentionally - making acid jazz kind of music, if he's not carefull. His music could do with a bit less smoothness and can use a it of a rough edge.
